It's actually bigger than it seems, but it's partitioned into three spaces so it has a small feel. If the band has a lot of draw, the area where you can see and hear them well gets crammed tightly, otherwise people hang out along the back wall and side wall-shelf-thing and often dance in the middle. You can always retreat to the tables and chairs on the other side of the bar if you want to take a break from the music and hang out with a friend.
It's hard to do good sound in a space like that. You just have to walk around to see where you get the best sound. Starting near the soundman is usually a good bet.
