Elen Turner is a travel writer and editor based in Nelson, at the top of the South Island, a few hours’ drive from Christchurch. She co-authored Lonely Planet’s New Zealand (2023) and Experience New Zealand (2022). She admits to not being a fan of pre-2011 Christchurch but has had a change of heart and now ranks it as New Zealand’s best big city.
