The people here are incredible, and being surrounded by such a talented team is inspiring. I appreciate the startup environment and working more closely with others across the company while being ourselves.

Tell us about you! (Where are you from, hobbies/interests, things you do outside of work!)

Growing up between Brazil and the US instilled an appreciation for traveling and learning about other cultures from an early age. I explore new places as much as possible while dividing up my time to visit family back home. All that traveling as a kid also developed into a passion for aviation, which eventually led me to the wonderful sport of gliding. There's something special about flying without an engine, relying solely on skill and the natural elements. Outside of that, I keep my body moving as much as possible and enjoy the occasional music concert.

What does a Software Engineer do anyway? How did you get in to Engineering?

As an SRE, I focus on maintaining and improving system reliability, scalability, and efficiency for our applications and enabling other developers to do their best work. My role involves a lot of problem-solving, innovation, and generally keeping the tech stack afloat while finding solutions to do that most efficiently. I came into engineering from a non-traditional background, starting in supply chain and finance. My nerdy side eventually spoke louder and led me into software engineering, where I use several soft skills learned in my previous careers along with the technical aspects of the current.

What's your favorite thing about your role here at Going?

The people here are incredible, and being surrounded by such a talented team is inspiring. Coming from a corporate background, I appreciate the startup environment and working more closely with others across the company while being ourselves. I've also enjoyed the opportunity to expand into a new domain of software engineering. I transitioned from application development to DevOps, adding a whole new skill set to my toolbox.

What advice would you give to a candidate interested in working at Going?

Be yourself and be curious. Research the company and tailor your application and questions to us. Demonstrate you're fearless in exploring outside your comfort zone. Going has a strong culture of learning and growth, and the best candidates here are those who approach challenges as opportunities to learn and innovate. Also, a passion for travel certainly helps!

Tell us about your background (education, work experience, goals, etc.)

My professional journey began in the supply chain industry after I obtained a business undergrad degree in Brazil. Later, I transitioned into investor relations within the finance umbrella after completing an MBA in finance in the US. A few years later, a planned sabbatical and a backpacking trip through Southeast Asia turned my gears, and I decided to explore a career path that better aligned with my interests. I felt drawn to software engineering and transitioned into the field, where I plan on deepening my technical knowledge and becoming a leader in the field.

What prompted your love of travel?

Growing up in Brazil, travel was always part of my life—whether it was exploring my home country's diverse regions or venturing abroad. Each trip fuels my curiosity about different cultures, histories, and landscapes, giving me new perspectives. Now, it's something I actively incorporate into my life whenever I can.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I dreamed of being a commercial pilot! Aviation captured my imagination early on, and I'm grateful to have pursued it in some capacity by becoming a glider pilot. Flying still feels like a childhood dream come true.
