Iberia Plus is the name of the loyalty program for Iberia Airlines. Many credit card points transfer to Iberia, which means it is very easy to acquire and convert the points and miles you’d need to book with them.

Avios is the name of miles currency used to book Iberia flights.  Here’s what you need to know about booking with Iberia Avios.

What are Iberia Avios?

Iberia’s miles are called Avios. This is the “currency” used to book Iberia flights.

How to create an Iberia account

You'll need to be logged in to search for flights you can book with Avios. Therefore, the first step is creating a free account.

Step 1. At Iberia.com, click the person icon in the top right.

This opens a window that asks you to log in. At the bottom, you’ll see an option to register for an account.

Step 2. Enter an email and create a password.

After clicking register, you’ll be directed to a new screen where you’re asked to enter an email and create a password. You can also use a Google or Facebook account as your login.

Finally, you’ll enter your name.

Step 3. Check your email for your Iberia Plus loyalty number.

After registering, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your new account number.

Pro tip: Now link your credit card rewards programs with your Iberia Plus account. This guide explains how.

How to book with Iberia Avios

Step 1. At Iberia.com, click the Log In icon in the top right

You can use your email or loyalty number to log in.

Step 2. Select Book a flight with Avios

After logging in to your account, you’ll be redirected to the homepage.

In the search menu at the top, tick off the box that says Pay with Avios.

Step 3. Enter your search criteria

You can choose a one-way or a return trip, but you may have better luck finding award availability when you search one-way.

If you are trying to book a Going with Points deal using Iberia Avios, you can enter the information from that deal alert here.

Step 4. Browse flight options

After clicking search, you’ll be presented with all the available flights on the requested day.

You’ll see all available flights that can be booked with Avios. Iberia will also show you what cabins are available to book with Avios on a specific flight.

Step 5. Select a flight and decide how many Avios to spend

After selecting a flight, it will show you the cost in Avios, plus taxes and fees.

One nice thing about Iberia is that the airline offers several options for paying with a mix of cash and Avios, which could be useful if you want to save Avios.

Step 6. Confirm your booking

To finalize your booking, you must have enough Avios in your account first.

Transfer partners with Iberia

It’s easy to amass Iberia Avios because many credit card points transfer to Iberia. This means that you can transfer 1,000 credit card points to become 1,000 Iberia Avios with:

You could take advantage of one of the following cards' welcome offers and convert the points to Avios:

Credit cards that earn Iberia Avios

In addition to cards that earn transferable points, you could also earn Avios through the card_name. Its welcome offer is: bonus_miles_full.

This card is issued by Chase, so be aware that it’s subject to the Chase 5/24 rule.

Transferring Avios

The cool thing about Avios is that it is also the currency for several other airline loyalty programs, including:

  • British Airways
  • Qatar Airways Privilege Club
  • Aer Lingus AerClub
  • Vueling
  • And, Finnair Plus (as of March 2024)

Even better? You can transfer Avios between loyalty programs at a 1:1 rate. This means that you could transfer credit card points to Iberia Avios and then transfer those Avios from Iberia to Qatar Airways.

Here are some reasons why you'd want to transfer Avios among programs:

  • You credit card points transfer to one partner (e.g. Iberia), but you want to book on another airline (e.g. Qatar).
  • Redeeming another airline costs fewer Avios. This would be because of distance-based award charts.
  • Your Avios are about to expire and transferring them to another program extends their lifetime.
