Top tips for finding a cheap flight to Fiji
Book in the Goldilocks Window
Finding cheap airfare to Fiji can be difficult, especially if you hope to travel during the busy season from July–September. It can be easier if you plan ahead and book during the Goldilocks Window. The Goldilocks Window is our term for the best time to find cheap flights. It’s not too close to your departure date but not too far away either. It’s about 1–3 months before a domestic trip and 2–8 months before an international trip. Although if you’re traveling during peak season, you should start looking even earlier.
So, if you want to visit Fiji in August, start looking for flights in January. Whatever you do, don’t wait until the last minute. We see prices rise reliably during busy travel periods at the 21-, 14-, and 7-day points before a trip. Book before those dates if you can.
Use the Greek Islands Trick
Our notorious Greek Islands Trick doesn’t only work in Europe. Try it to reach islands or other expensive destinations all over the world. Your goal is to get as close to your final destination as you can for the cheapest price, then find a budget airline or other mode of travel for the last leg.
If flights from Los Angeles to Fiji are $1,500, look for flights to Sydney instead. If you see a great deal for under $1,000, it could be worth looking for flights from Sydney to Fiji. It requires more work but could save you a ton of money on an island getaway.
Search alternative departure airports
Like the Greek Islands Trick, you can save money by searching for flights from different airports. If you live in Dallas, for example, and want to visit Fiji but are seeing exorbitant prices, search for flights out of LA or Honolulu instead. There are direct flights from those cities to Fiji, so you could find a great deal. If you do, see if you can find a cheap flight from Dallas to LA or Honolulu. There are more logistics involved, but a little time and energy can end up saving you a lot of money.
Fly when it’s cheaper
A simple way to save money on flights is to book when it’s not peak season. That’s November to April in Fiji. You might get some rainy days, but if you find an amazing deal, it might be worth dealing with a downpour. Fiji gets tropical storms, meaning it rains hard for a while then clears up and is sunny much of the day. So even an off-season vacation can still include plenty of beach time.
Another good time to save is the shoulder seasons, the months just before and after the busy season. That’s May–June and October in Fiji. You’ll get good weather, yet fewer crowds and lower prices. If you’re visiting from the US, check out flights during Thanksgiving week. Because so many Americans travel domestically during that time, airlines sometimes discount international airfare.
Finally, you can save by flying on certain days. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays are the cheapest days to fly. Fridays and Sundays are the most expensive.
Set alerts for specific trips
Keeping track of airfare as it changes is hard work. We know that firsthand. However, there are easy ways to have technology do the work for you.
Set up fare alerts for your travel dates, and you’ll get an email when the fare drops into your price range or by a significant amount. If your dates or airports are flexible, set a few different alerts. We recommend doing this well in advance of the Goldilocks Window we talked about before so you can see prices drop during that time.
Fiji is not very well connected to the US, so travelers outside of California or Hawaii will have at least one layover. It can be a long trip, but the beaches are worth it.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Fiji
When is high season in Fiji?
While you might think most visitors to Fiji go in the northern hemisphere winter to escape cold temperatures in the rest of the world, the high season is actually July–September. Temperatures will be in the mid-60s to 80s (Fahrenheit), and it’s the dry season. This time of year also tends to be busier in Fiji, as it’s winter break for Australians and New Zealanders, so kids are out of school and lots of families take vacation.
When is the best time to visit Fiji?
October is a great month to visit Fiji. You’ll avoid the high prices and crowds that flock there from July to September, but you’ll still get nice weather before the rainy season starts in November. May–June is another nice time to visit. Shoulder seasons, right on either edge of the high season, are generally good times to save while still taking advantage of weather and other desirable attributes of high seasons.
How many airports are there in Fiji?

What are the rules for traveling with pets to Fiji?
Before you bring your pet to Fiji, you must obtain an import permit from the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji. In addition, you’ll need health certificates, vaccination certificates, a microchip, and more. Fiji is currently free of deadly diseases, and because it is a small island country, entry rules are strict. Your pet also has to quarantine for 30 days on entry at a government station, then quarantine at home. So, unless you’re planning a very long visit in Fiji, you will likely not be able to bring your pet. In addition, some breeds of dogs and cats are banned, including pit bull terriers.
